Who would’ve thought there would be a time when urban twenty somethings would be lining up for butchering classes and CSA pick-ups? While it’s now common knowledge that foodie skills and sourcing are bringing haute cuisine home, a growing number of culinary pathfinders is at least as concerned about the look of their edibles than with its taste or origins. Perhaps motivated by the kyaraben trend, the latest gastronomic wizardry is elevating the presentation of edibles to a novel art.
Rainbow Cakes, a long time Birthday party favorite, Funfetti seems to have fallen out of favor among multi-colored baked goods and even amateur bakers who previously wouldn’t have known their way around a KitchenAid mixer are finding juvenile pleasure in tasting the rainbow.
Whereas, of late, a tray of cupcakes has been the default means of attaining a sugar-butter high at home, cakes that look like something that Rainbow Brite would’ve eaten are now coming to the fore. (If you’re more of a breakfast person, we’ve also seen rainbow bagels and rainbow pancakes.) A multi layered white cake in which each layer is dyed a different color of the rainbow, this ROYGBIV dessert may not always taste as good as Fudgie the Whale but, then again, you don’t have to rely on Carvel for it.
Just another example of something Found
