Alexandria, VA – The Color Marketing Group’s recent Conference in Taipei set the stage for two major forecast colors. “The Asia/Pacific color professionals met for the first of 4 international Color Marketing Group Conferences this year”, reported Mark Woodman, CMG President. “The excitement of the region comes fully to life with the important colors they’ve chose to represent their NEXT colors in their ever growing markets.”
LIMBU: This is a truly luminous color and needs no special effects to enhance the glow. In the disarray of the year past, a mixed bag of hopes and fears has been delivered to our doorsteps. Uncertainty, complexity, clutter, and chaos. Situations change quickly and there is a need to grasp and adapt swiftly to changed circumstance. Our lives are increasingly complex even though aided by more sensory appliances, savvy electronics, streaming information, we still need more navigation.
In the midst of this, there is a search for a singular element that stands out as a directional beacon. If that element has to be a color, then it has to perform an augmented role in our lives. What will be the qualities this color will deliver? Choosing the color that fits all these requirements can’t be a stereotypical choice, or a knee jerk reaction; it needs to be a considered choice. With the whole world in upheaval; economically, technologically, and culturally, this color must encapsulate a mood of clarity, direction and, above all, optimism.
The color should be a signal defining who we are, and help us to navigate where we are going. It should enhance and define space, internal and external, physical and sensorial.
A color that can span time is needed; a reconnection to ancestry and values of the past. Bridging cultures, it needs to have meaning for many people, and figure emotively in our collective imagination. A color should be forecast that can transition us to a future that is rapidly morphing and accelerating. It has to deal with the information age, with digital technologies; with superstructures and megacities. To take us into the 21st century the color has to be moving in more ways than one. It should be dynamic, having speed and velocity. On the other hand it has to move people with a charisma and pull that are centripetal, drawing us irresistibly. Enveloping us with a promise of a confident future, while compassionately making the present more comfortable.
As we move from knowledge economies to more creative economies, a color is needed that would set our minds free, enabling us to provide solutions for a utopia ever out of reach A bridge between art and design. A color that is provocative and interrogative to question the here and now, to upturn established predictable good taste!
Symbolic of celestial light and earthly fire, Yellow the elixir of life, is the color! The hue has always been associated with joy radiance and intellect. Its mineral associations are with a metal most treasured by humans, gold; its abstract qualities lead us to creative paths.
BOLT: Bolt, a cobalt inspired Blue, traditionally a mourning color to Chinese in particular. Now there is a drive for accent colors and deep tones to highlight a superbly fresh, optimistic palette that sees traditions as secondary to modern thinking.
Traditional Chinese temples and fine arts influenced the colors without boundaries, as technology drove design to newer ways of using Nature as an inspiration.
For the future, this blue becomes a powerful accent for automotive, electronics, and home interiors. A shift is seen, as we take colors exemplifying old traditions, and give them new applications, without any hindrance from the past. This dynamic color exceeds our expectations with energy and depth.
To the western eye this color has connotations of spirituality, loyalty, and substance.
